Today I’m sharing my must-pack baby beach gear if you’re heading on a beach vacation with baby!
The beach used to be the most simplistic vacation possible. All we ever needed was a good beach chair and beer. Well, you still need both of those with a baby (beer is more mandatory now than ever), but several other accessories are necessary to make beaching with a baby a success.
1. You need a beach wagon for all of your stuff.
I’m talking about a serious wagon with big tires that can hold all of your beach accessories. Like this one.
2. Take an inflatable baby pool.
This is the best baby beach hack out there. You take an inflatable baby pool, blow it up, and fill it with a little bit of ocean water for baby to splash in. This was a lifesaver for us. We threw in a few bath toys and he played happily in the baby pool for quite a while. Here is one that Isaac loved! It has a shade so it was great for keeping him out of the direct sunlight.
3. Spray bottle with clean water.
Okay, so this one we actually forgot to take on the latest trip. But this is such a fabulous idea. Take an empty spray bottle with you and fill it with clean water before walking down to the beach. You can use it to get the sand off of baby (and you) easily!
4. Canopy tent for shade.
Definitely, make sure you have this if you’re going to be at the beach for a while. Babies are so sensitive to sunlight and this is the best way to give them breaks from being in the sun directly. Here is a great one that has 50+ UPF sun protection. And it’s less than $25!
5. A mat for sitting and for diaper changes.
This mat gives you an awesome, non-sandy surface for sitting, playing, and turned out to be great for quick diaper changes, too.
6. Baby sunscreen.
Babyganics is great. It goes on super smooth without too much rubbing and is free of a lot of junky, weird ingredients. I love all Babyganics products! We reapplied every hour or so on the beach and Isaac did not get sunburned.
7. A baby hat that fits.
This hat is one of the few that I’ve found that actually fits well on Isaac’s head and stays put (without falling off or having the wind blow it off). It also has 50+ UPF sun protection which is awesome.
8. The best baby swim diaper.
The disposable swim diapers are terrible. I cannot recommend this reusable swim diaper enough. Isaac had an explosive poop on the beach one day (LOL) and this diaper was able to hold everything in with no leaks. I just rinsed it with cold water when we got back to the beach house and then put it in the wash. It came clean just fine.
9. A baby beach chair!
I love this baby beach chair by Summer Infant. It’s multipurpose, so you can use for any occasion where you need a high chair for baby. Perfect for outdoor concerts, picnics, or camping!
10. Beach toys (and bath toys) are a must.
So Isaac didn’t really understand how to play in the sand but he played around with these little beach toys anyway. He also liked playing with bath toys we brought from home in his baby pool. Here is one of Isaac’s favorite bath toys (it floats so mama doesn’t have to fish it out of the bottom of the tub!).
There you have it! I hope these tips and products help make your next beach trip with baby a blast.
